They'll find out, and you'll end up with egg on your face (and no funding from then in the future). 1. Not doing your homework Seriously guys, research is vital in the fundraising game. Before applying to a trust or foundation, make sure that you fit in their objectives. Spend a good few hours investigating their website. Look at what they’ve funded in the past, check if your project is eligible and definitely don't apply if your project falls under something they explicitly say they won't fund. They won't change their mind, no matter how fantastic your idea. 2. Bad maths If you're no good at it, find someone who is. Because if your figures don't add up, why would anyone trust you with their cash? A budget should show all of the money going in and out the project – be clear about how much of it you're asking for from them and where exactly it will be used.
